NetSports Modified Doubles

Conditions of play:

Team MakeUp
3 players per team – a team will ideally be made up on one male and one female with the sex of the third player at the discretion of the team. A team may not have three males without incurring a penalty of three games per set he plays in. It is also advisable to have a reserve player of both sexes. A captain should be appointed to act as team liaison

Late Running
When a match is running late, especially where the grade is immediately followed by another, the coordinator may hasten the end of the match. (For instance, the Clifton Hill and Richmond 4pm doubles must finish by 6.30pm to allow the following grade to start). The players will be notified which is to be the last game and the score at the end of it will stand. If the last set starts late (after 5.45pm at Clifton Hill and Richmond), it will be played with “no advantage”, that is, at every deuce the next point wins the game. The receiving side decides whether the serve is to the forehand or backhand side. Sets may also be shortened if the lights are about to go out

Match fees
$42 per team should be collected and handed to the coordinator prior to the 2nd set

Rain
Where weather interrupts play, a credit towards the next match will be offered if less than two sets are complete. The score will not count. Where more than two sets are complete, the result stands and full payment is due

Fill-Ins
IT IS THE TEAM’S RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND THEIR OWN FILL-INS. Players should give their captain and coordinator as much notice as possible of anticipated absence. If unable to find a replacement on your own, please talk to your coordinator who will suggest names and numbers, or call NetSports on 1300 TENNIS for help. If a team is short a modified match format will be used. Your coordinator has a scoresheet for this. See How to Play for more details

Forfeit
A team must make every endeavor to provide a full team for the match. NetSports can help with this, but you must give us enough notice. If a team forfeits a match with less than 72 hours notice the team is still liable for at least half the team fee. It is important to be proactive in putting out a complete team, as if you forfeit it disappoints not only your team members who could have played, but also the entire opposition team. See How to Play for more details

Finals
All teams are involved in the finals, no matter where they finish on the ladder. If this is not the case you will be told in plenty of time by your coordinator. Expect to be involved in finals for the two weeks after the end of the published fixture. Finals may go on longer if the weather dictates. Players must have played a minimum of threematches for that team to be eligible to play for them in the finals. Non eligible players will be allowed to participate in finals only at NetSports’ discretion, and will be penalised four games. See How to Play for more details

Etiquette
At all times players should behave as they would wish their opposition to behave towards them. Respect your opponents’ line calls, and wear appropriate attire. If you believe the opposition is not behaving in the spirit of the game, talk to your coordinator. See Etiquette for more details

Remember the Penalties

  • Extra male player – 3 games per set he plays in
  • Missing player - 3 games per set the missing player would have played in, and the team is still liable for the full team fee
  • Late arrival – for every 5 minutes that a team is late, the opposition will be awarded 1 game. For example, if a match is due to start at 7.00pm, and a team does not arrive until 7.15pm, they start 3-0 down

It is acceptable to field more than 2 females in a team, but, where more than 2 males are fielded in a team a game penalty of three games per set will be enforced
